Interstate Channels Erosion Protection

The Department of Transportation specified tied concrete block mat, Flexamat Standard, as an alternative to rock lined ditches. The DOT considered future mowing maintenance and improved performance. Rock rip rap lined ditches had proven to be an ongoing maintenance issue.

Most of the roadside channels required 8' wide concrete mat. The contractor ordered 8' x 75' rolls. Each truckload had 8 rolls, 4800 square feet. On their best day, the contractor graded and installed 2400 linear feet of the tied concrete block mat, 19,200 SF!
