Infrastructure Protection - Bridges
The project was introduced in Florida to update and repair the existing two-lane bridge over live stream. The work consisted of sand bagging a diversion of the creek, digging down to the footer, sandblasting the old sheet pile, tar the metal, pour an additional larger bridge footer, and cover the slope with Flexamat 10NW for scour protection. Rock rip rap and or hand placed sand-concrete bags is the traditional method for scour protection under these bridges, but the Manning’s “n” roughness can slow the flow of water during tropical storm events. The Manning’s “n” for Flexamat is around 0.035 with rock rip rap 0.070.
