This is a follow up video of an Alabama DOT project North of Prattville, AL along I-65.

Home site on a 1:1 slope along the Sapelo River.

This project site is located at Martha Randolph Stevens Park, a 12-acre recreation site in Liberty County, Georgia. The shoreline was experiencing active erosion. The marshland consisted of 243 linear feet of shoreline with a fishing pier. The bank of the shoreline was graded back to a 3:1 slope. The slope was protected with Flexamat 10NW. The choice of using Flexamat and the rock toe were to provide oyster recruitment. Spartina Alterniflora was replanted throughout the Flexamat above the tidal zone of the shoreline. The total impact to the coastal marshland was 5,350 SF.

The key is to place the mat on top of the slope. This will prevent the roll from unrolling down the slope. You have more control unrolling while the mat is weighted on top of the slope. Then keep keep the bucket low when unrolling. Unrolling with your bucket low keep the mat unrolling toward you upslope.

Flexamat Standard was specified for erosion control on an embankment adjacent to a BESS pad for a Southeast United States energy provider. BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) pads are concrete foundations designed to support the heavy, long-term load of battery containers, inverters, and transformers. 58,000 square feet of Flexamat Standard was specified to armor the embankment. The material is package in rolls, helping make the installation smooth and efficient. The installation utilized mostly 15.5' x 55' rolls. These mats have a geogrid and underlayment extension for overlapping adjacent mats seamlessly. The design engineer, the SE utility provider, and the contractor work with many types of erosion control products across the USA. They were extremely impressed with the performance of Flexamat after a huge rain event struck the site midway through the installation. The project manager commented that they were impressed with the performance of Flexamat that had just been installed. Flexamat stopped deep rills and prevented gullies from forming. All areas not armored with Flexamat needed to be re-graded after the storm, but not the Flexamat protected areas.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) used Flexamat tied concrete block mats for roadside slope erosion control on I-25, specifically for fast, effective stabilization with minimal traffic disruption, complementing larger wildlife underpass projects in the area to protect both drivers and local fauna like black bears. This solution involved unrolling the geogrid-reinforced mats on seeded slopes behind guardrails to prevent erosion, allowing for quick installation and maintaining traffic flow on the treacherous mountain pass. Key Details about the Project: Purpose: To combat erosion on steep slopes along I-25, a challenging segment. Product Used: Flexamat Plus UV-T, a system of concrete blocks embedded in high-strength geogrid. Benefits: Speedy Installation: Allowed for quick setup and removal of traffic controls, minimizing lane closures. Durable: Provides a stable, long-term solution for erosion control. Vegetation-Friendly: The spacing between blocks allows for grass to grow, creating a natural look. Context: Part of broader DOT efforts in the area, including significant wildlife underpasses to reduce collisions with animals like black bears. How it Works: Preparation: Slopes are graded and seeded with appropriate seed mix. Placement: Mats are unrolled from rolls, often using simple equipment like excavators and skid steers. Erosion Control: Stabilize the soil permanently, working with nature, and safe for wildlife. This project showcases how the DOT uses modern solutions like Flexamat for efficient infrastructure maintenance, alongside major wildlife crossings for ecological safety.

Flexamat is used to help protect the channel from concentrated flow and stop the "backwater effect" from flooding.

Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) owns and operates the Sparkleberry Solar Energy Center in Marianna, FL. The 74.5 MW facility has more than 200,000 photovaltaic solar panels that are situated on 600 acres. The site is constructed over sandy and highly erosive soils. Severe erosion developed at the site, exposing the pilings supporting the panels. Initial erosion control efforts failed prior to working with the Flexamat team. Once Flexamat Plus was installed in the problem areas, the site's erosion problems were solved.
